Attendance was down for the 76th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which ran from August 8-14, 2016 in Sturgis, South Dakota, but that didn’t stop people from flocking to the wildly popular event for a week of fun, motorcycles, and food. Set in the Black Hills region of South Dakota, this year’s rally had a more laid back feel to it, especially compared to that of last year’s 75th anniversary event.
If you’re unfamiliar with the event, we’ve provided an excerpt from the official Sturgis website, which says,
Incredible roads like Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, the Wildlife Loop, Vanocker Canyon Road and Spearfish Canyon take you to amazing destinations – Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, Bear Butte State Park, the Badlands and Devil’s Tower National Monument. Highway 14A’s big, wide turns transport you to the infamous town of Deadwood and the mining town of Lead, and the awe inspiring Highway 385 meanders past towns like Hill City, Silver City and Custer, all contained in the Black Hills National Forest. It’s breathtaking and it’s glorious and it will make you want to return each year.
This year’s event boasted nearly 725 individual vendors, live bands throughout the weekend days, demo rides from Harley Davidson, Ducati, Indian, and Can-Am, as well as photo towers and opportunities as well as daily conferences.

No actual data has been released on attendance to the event this year, however, it has been reported that motorcycle accidents and fatalities were at a record low for the event. Awesome!
