This is still in Beta and we encourage members to send us feedback.
If you don’t want to chat with other members you can use the Offline Mode to hide yourself from other members. This is setting is located in Account, Edit Account:
Give it a try and let us know what features you would like to see added to Private Chat.

I like the new chat sessions. Except this morning, people have tried to send me request. I accept them but nothing happens. I have been able to chat with some peeps.

Would be great if you could continue to remain “invisible”, see who is online BEFORE you decide to go into the chat session.

Please reinstate the ability to remain “invisible” and still see who’s on-line. If we want to chat with someone, THEN we can show our on-line status.
Also, the message feature is agonizingly slow. I typically type about 6 words before even one letter actually shows up on-screen in the message box. Then, if you made a mistake, it takes forever to go back and correct it. Who has that kind of time??

I can send a chat, but no one is responding, and I know they would if they could. Soooooooooo, not working yet. buttttttttttttttttt, I think it is awesome that you are integrating chat with it. Hope you get it fixed soon.

I got a window to come up. There was an area at the top with arrows going left and right. Below that was a big open grey area and at the bottom was an advertisement. That’s all I got but my chat buddy got my request and I got hers. But I could not respond.

It keeps crashing my computer. The website runs horribly slow anyway, this makes it worse. Are your servers big enough? I hate not being able to get even the website to work half the time. Crystal

Chat seems to be working but needs to have a “Close” button. If you’re chatting to 2 people and 1 stops chatting, I haven’t been able to figure out how to release them from chat.

you lost my support when u stopped us from having more friends than u thought we should have and taking away our personal stuff u messed up our main pages by trying not to use up bandwidth main message header on our what are we doing right now no longer interesting cant make our friend s laugh anymore u lost your sense of hummer slowly you are only going to have predictors and gangsters using your website to contact each other for illegal gain u will go away and that’s sad when i first got on here it was fun and i looked forward to logging on now it only a once a week to say hi to the ones that are checking in what a wast u forgot the ones that made this site possible .ps to all my friends out there

the chat window is pretty but it tells you to wait , typing is to fast for it to process , you need to get rid of BETA thats arcaic.. either move forward all the way or forget it..
I chatted with 2 people out of 5 i messaged something is wrong..
Technology has steps take them all or forget.. yu cannot process the fast speeds with Beta to old.. hello ,, my son is a computer engineer.

I was on-line via phone. It sent chat to a chic but no reply but her accepted it. On the computer it don’t give me window to type in.

there’s one thing you forgot to put in the chat … that would be and *X* next to the name so when the conversation is done, you can remove that person from the line of people you are having a private chat with…. otherwise it seems pretty good

I want my friends to know when I’m online but I want chat disabled so I can enjoy being online and posting or sending messages without a ton of people wanting to chat with me. It appears as though if I disable chat, then they don’t know I’m online. I want either or, not both. Thanks.

Okey doke. I tried to use the feature and I couldn’t type anything. I get a box with a lovely advertisement at the bottom but I can’t type anything in either field. I thought, well maybe I need to go change my profile settings to show my status as on line, but I can’t even FIND THAT screen. WTF? What are y’all doing to us? You ever heard the expression if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it? Well, too late for that now. It’s broke. Alot of people are getting discouraged by the changes and they will probably abandon BON for facebook. That is… those who haven’t already done so.

Note: Kneejerk reaction. I reread the instructions and found the screen to confirm that I am allowing people to see my status as on line, and it was already checked. But the chat feature still isn’t working. Couldn’t type diddly squat.

Tried several Chats tonight with two long time BON friends, in both cases, even though we accepted the Chat requests, the dialogue boxes would come up on both users ends, but, although the box was on the screen, and the Ads seemed to work on the bottom, the large middle box and the top one-line box did not seem to allow us to type anything at all.
We tried to type blind test messages and hit ‘Enter’ but neither of us saw anything on our respective boxes!

Everyone having problems with Chat needs to log out of chat and BON, erase cookies and temp internet files, then go back in.
Im using firefox and am not having issues.
Even though we can show if we are online, there needs to be a quick feature extra status thing below chat in our names that says away from desk or something. DOnt necessarily want to go in and have to change the checkbox all the time.

I like the new chat feature but there should be a window or something that you can click on that says your not available or busy on the chat box itself, instead of having to go to your privacy settings.
Also need some smiley face icons added that we can use during our chats with friends.

Well I have yet to have it work. I touch chat with a friend, then the box comes up, but then I can’t type anything in on the box. One of my friends asked if I was trying to talk with them because a box came up with my pic on it, but nothing more. They couldn’t chat in the box either.

If I enter more than a few words in the chat box I can’t see what I just typed. The chat box needs to grow and stretch as you type so5 you can see everything before you send it. I’m using a Motorola ATRIX Android cell phone. So

I have had success with the latest feature Chat. Both on my Android phone and using Chrome. I agree with all the other users that when you release your latest updates, there always seems to be some glitch or another. It is frustrating to say the least not only to the end user but to you the owner, hearing all the complaints.
I propose you enlist a LARGE group of end users to be your “focus” group and testers PRIOR to installing releases. I am volunteering! If you are already doing this, perhaps you have the wrong set of people testing? Do you think?

I’ve deleted Adobe Flashplayer, many times now, installed it again, even went into my registry, and deleted any leftover code.
Went back into the chat feature, says I need to upgrade to a newer version of Adobe,
Hell, I’m using the newest one out there. ver. 11. whatever 64 bit.
Tried using it on I.E.8, and Mozilla Firefox, and Google chrome, Nothing,
this worked fine several weeks ago, now I can’t get anything.

The whole new BON profile sucks, I won’t the old one back, and I don’t care if there’s a chat option or not. One reason I loved BON to begin with is because it WASN’T formatted like facebook, this is really bad.

I haven’t had any problems with chat as I hear so many do. I don’t care for the new chat option. Sometimes I sign on just to see who’s online and whats going on, next thing I know I have all kinds of people wanting to chat. Friends popping up on top of friends that already want to chat. Had 9 friends all wanting to chat at the same time yesterday and it just got to be to much.

Hello, the chat seems to work, but an audio alert tone would be nice when the pop up window is reduced or pushed into the background. Oh, and when someone is seeking a chat, missed many chats because I didn’t or they didn’t know a chat was beginning.

This is a great site If I want to look at my own profile Wow. Or other pictures Wow. Not to be negative ,but. What is this site even on the internet for ?Someones personal joke of how not to find a site entertaining . think wll head into the garage , jack up my bike and spin the front wheel fo later personal entertainment . Anyone wish to join . Then we can go watch the grass grow through the bumpers of the truck parked out back . And if we’re real lucky , we will get to see one of them rust and fall off . That is a question that I don’t think has ever come up. I can do it from the admin side if you like. There is a way for users to do it themselves, but I will have to look into that to find it, it’s been a while since I have seen the regular user screen.
