You probably remember the famous choppers from the 1969 cult-classic film Easy Rider. The movie followed the characters Wyatt (Peter Fonda) and Billy (Dennis Hopper) during a cross-country journey on their chopper motorcycles. Wyatt road the bike nicknamed “Captain America”, recognized for its patriotic paint job and elongated front end. Billy’s chopper had a smaller frame with a classic red tank with yellow flames.
After watching the film, twin brothers, Charlie and Ernie Sundel were infatuated with recreating the bikes featured in the movie. The brothers have now completed their replicas of the famous bikes and the results are incredible!
The first bike, “Captain America” was built by Charlie Sundel. Charlie relied heavily on freeze-framing stills from the movie to catch every detail of the original “Captian America” bike. The bike is built on a chromed-out wishbone frame with a 53 Panhead engine. It features a hand painted tank with 23 stars and 13 stripes, an added front brake, fishtail mufflers, sissy bar, and dog bone handlebars.
The second bike, built by Ernie Sundel, resembles Billy’s motorcycle in the movie Easy Riders. It also features a 1950’s Harley-Davidson Panhead engine, an extended front end, custom handlebars, fenders, and British style headlights. The tank is handpainted in classic fire-engine red with yellow flames.
