A motorcycle club out of Fayetteville, NC has made headlines recently, and for a pretty spectacular reason. For the past 33 years, the Wingmen Motorcycle Club has been offering their community quite the special service – distributing toys. Their first toy run, over three decades ago didn’t have a police escort – much like it does now – and in fact, they were hoping to not run into police that very first day of the decades-long run.
At a recent club tribute party, held by the Fayetteville Urban Ministry to honor the MC and their efforts, Wingmen MC veteran Patrick Murphy said:
“We didn’t have the money for a parade permit back then…so that first year, we chose the same day as the Fayetteville Christmas parade, figuring all the police would be there.”
The MC holds the ride every December, distributing toys for Christmas to those who may have not had any without them. The very first ride, only 100 bikes joined in. Now, nearly 1,000 bikes participate annually in the heartfelt cause.
Christmas isn’t the only holiday the MC makes special – they even boast fireworks shows for their community for the 4th of July, as well as hold charity runs for community members in need.
